REBIRTH 35. How does rebirth work?
When a person is alive he does good or bad actions. These actions accumulate merit or non-merit. Through the good or bad actions one generates good or bad karma. And according to one’s karma he takes birth in the six realms of Samsara. If the accumulation of merits are high in percentage then he will take birth in the three higher realms of Samsara such as realms of god, demigod and human. If the non-merits are higher then he will be born in the three lower realms of the Samsara which are the realms of hell, hungry ghost and animal. Rebirth takes place continuously unless a person realizes the true nature of phenomena which is emptiness or selflessness. When one realizes the true nature of phenomena then he is freed from Samsara and cycle of rebirths.
