As this will not be an annual event for the non-respite care cases, there is no obvious argument for counting one each year for the respite cases. The new assessment that you mentioned refers to the need to update the original assessment as part of the review process, which applies to all LAC and should be an ongoing process each time the child’s case is reviewed, to ensure that the child’s needs are being met. Therefore as long as the episodes of care are part of a continuous planned programme then only the initial episode would be counted.
