Should Al Gore Apologise For Inventing The Internet?

It has always made me mad that the right has purposefully misinterpreted Gore’s comment. What he actually said was that his committee as a Senator is responsible for inventing the internet in it’s current form. Previously, it was a collection of government and military sites connected by phone lines and Gore fought to have it expanded for purposes of commerce. They “invented” the internet as we know it. He wasn’t claiming he was in the labs at Bell, ATT, IBM or Xerox. Gore was making the argument that government funding of technology research can have dramatic effects on the economy of the US and indeed the world.
