Should Britain Keep the Monarchy?

No one else would have them. Seriously, you are wrong, the Queen is not the monarch of the Commonwealth countries, many of which are republics, but she is head of state of a few of them. Even those are constitutionally separate so are not affected by changes in Britain – or vice versa. Nor is there any need for a referendum. Did Cromwell have a referendum? No. The Queen’s remaining powers as British monarch are exercised by the Prime Minister and that could be changed by Act of Parliament. The Queen would then be monarch in name only and no doubt some people would grovel childishly as they do now but probably only the odd punter when she went to Tescos and not the entire media crew like now.
