Should field seams be wedge-welded or hand-welded (hot-air gun)?

The preferred method for welding long “straight” seams is the hot-wedge welder, with the hand-held hot-air welder reserved for detail work such as boot installation, patching, small “cut up” welding, etc. Like anything else, when done properly the end result of either method is just fine.
