Should Florida enact tougher emissions standards?
One step closer to tougher emissions limits for Florida Saturday, January 31, 2009 TALLAHASSEE (Bay News 9) — The state of Florida is modeling its plan to crack down on auto emissions after a California proposal that has been held up in Washington D.C. If Gov. Charlie Crist gets his way, Floridians could be creating a lot less air pollution when they hit the road. He wants the state to adopt California’s plan to cut greenhouses gases by 30 percent. So far, things are going Crist’s way. This week, President Barack Obama indicated that he wants states to decide their own allowable levels. “I think it protects Florida, protects our environment,” Crist said. “I applaud the administration for granting the waiver to several other states, including Florida, and it moves Florida forward. This is exactly what I think we need to be doing in order to maintain a clean state.” But before anything can change here in Florida, the state legislature has to approve the new so-called California standard
