Should foreigners adopt American values and culture?

If they become Americans they should – and will, even if it takes a generation or two. But then, once they live here legally they’re not foreigners anymore. . As for actual foreigners, there are some things about America they absolutely should adopt but they have less to do with culture and values and more to do with law. I refer to property rights, self-governance, rule of law and equality of man.* . If they don’t want to do the whole baseball, hotdogs and apple pie thing that’s fine. . Honestly, our culture could use improvement here and there. We have developed an in-your-face quality that could use some work if nothing else. ____________________________________________________ *No, we’re not perfect at all of these, thank you for pointing that out.

I don’t know about values – those are mine and are unlikely to change. But I have a firm belief that if you go to live in another culture, then you conform to that culture. In the same way, I think that the people who come to live in my country do not have the right to impose their culture on me.
