I have the same situation, sort of. My fiance's sister does live nearby but we're not close. I wanted my bridesmaids to be close people in my life. First thing, ask your fiance if he wants her in his wedding. She is his family so if he wants her in the wedding then it's important for you to put her on your side. If he doesn't care or says no, then don't do it. My fiance didn't put my brothers as groomsmen but I wanted them to be a part of the wedding because they were family so we used them as ushers. We will also have his sister read a poem or something like that since I won't have her as a bridesmaid but, because she's family, I'd like her in some capacity. Hope this helps. more

I had my sister in law as my bridesmaid and it actually brought us closer together. We would talk about the dresses, flowers and other wedding stuff. This allowed us to learn more about one another and she had some great stories about her brother! I think that if you want her to be in it, she would definitely say 'yes. To be honest, you are going to be seeing alot of her in the future, at family parties, holidays and then when you guys have kids - you will always be talking about the kids and stuff. I think it's a great gesture. :) I hope you have a wonderful wedding! more

I was in both of my brothers weddings as a bridesmaid I wasn't close either bride and I'm still not. However I was still the only sister either groom had. It would be a good gesture to ask her. She is still his family and you're having your family in it, if you don't ask her you may be accused of playing favorites or make it appear that you think your family is more important. All of my choices for my bridesmaids were family, 2 were my brothers wives, one was his sister, one was my cousin and one was his brothers wife. For my wedding my fiance's sister was one of the first people I asked, I never thought of not having her or his brothers wife. To me family is before friends. While my close circle of friends may change as the years pass, my brothers will always be my brothers and his sister will always be his sister. Looking at my parents wedding picture of their bridal party, the only ones of their groomsmen or bridesmaids I actually know are their siblings. The "close" friends they ... more
