Should I buy a plasma TV or LCD?
I was sold on plasma [due to price mostly, and size limitations on LCDs when I was shopping for a new large-screen TV] until I sat in a room full of them. They really look lousy at an angle of 50+ degrees, as I will often see it from my kitchen. LCDs are getting bigger [Sony just made a 52″]. Plus, according to Consumer Reports, LCDs are visably brighter, and don’t have the burn-in problems that Plasmas do — a big problem if you have kids who watch DVDs and let the static movie menus sit for long periods — or the crawl on all the news programs can do it too. But expect to pay a serious premium — Sony’s 50″ Plasma is $3000 at Amazon, while their 52″ LCD is $6,799 pre-order from Sony.
