Should I get a Quaker parrot or a Sun conure?

0

Both need lots of time and attention. Sun conures in particular are known to become screamers if they don’t receive lots of attention. You need to consider whether you live in a house or an apartment, how much time you can spend with the bird, how much food and vet care costs, etc. they are both highly intelligent birds and are capable of talking if you spend time teaching them. Quakers are not quite as demanding as conures, although any parrot is a high maintenance pet. If you have the time to treat the bird as your baby and plan on spending lots of time with it, a conure will bond very closely to you and you will have a long time companion. If you can only spend a few hours a day with your bird, the quaker is probably a better choice. If you have less time than that to devote to your new pet, then don’t get a bird.

We have both. We have 3 quakers and a sunday conure (half sun, half jenday). They are both awesome species of birds for first time bird owners. Conures are playful, mischeivious, and loving birds. Quakers are loyal, strong willed and have wonderful personalities. It owuld be very hard for me to pick just one species! Quakers are my favorite bird. They have a zest for life thats infectious. They are extremely smart, learn very quickly, and are the best addition to a family if they are trained and socialized properly. The noise levels are about the same- I know personally. The sun conures are just a few decibles higher. People may tell you they are screamers…this is untrue. Ours only screams if he is scared or wants out of his cage. Quakers are more of a yammering, talking bird. They usually don’t continuously scream unless they are unhappy, or not taken care of. Both birds are great choices!!! Good luck!

Sometimes it does not matter if the person hand feeds/tames them it is just in their nature to be a more independent breed. I can not speak for the sun conure. But every bird even if it is known to be an independent bird there is always the exceptions. Some will be cuddly and others won’t let you touch them. It depends on how much time the breeder can spend with them and not just feed them and then put them back in their cages. Just cause they are hand fed does not always mean they will be tame. Now with that being said, a Quaker can have a great vocabulary. Our Quaker is 12 years old and says many things. A Sun Conure can also talk but haven’t heard either way on if they are really good talkers or not. They are very pretty though. You can have a friendly bird if you are willing to put the time in it even if it’s not friendly to begin with. I did with my African Grey. It matters if you are looking for a pretty color or a good talker. And not every bird is guaranteed to talk just as the
