Should I get my Boston Terrier male fixed or use him as a stud to breed?

Don’t listen to your Dad. 🙂 Go through with the surgery. Your dog will be a happier, healthier little guy and would probably thank you for it if he spoke English! People that responsibly breed Boston Terriers only want to find stud dogs that have finished their championships and have specific health clearances (genetic health testing). Plus, the world already has a lot of Boston puppies desperately looking for homes. Plus, if you don’t neuter him, he’ll probably pick up a couple of annoying behaviors- marking is one of them, and he’ll have a desire to roam. Good luck and I hope the neutering procedure goes well.

As a responsible dog owner you have 2 basic choices. Get him fixed, or don’t get him fixed. If you choose not to get him fixed, be aware that there are some definite behaviors that will show up that you need to be aware of. He will likely be more aggressive (especially if around any bitches in heat) and will mark/spray much more around the house. These can easily be handled, but you should be aware. The 2nd thing I would mention is that if you’re not going to fix your dog, be aware that it’s your responsibility to understand that he will want to have sex with other dogs. Either fix him to take the urge away, or provide him with the opportunity to have sex with other dogs. Not once, or twice, but once or twice a year, every year. Just to clarify – they will not get ‘backed up’ just as a person would not get ‘backed up’ but the urge to procreate will be there, and get stronger when in the vicinity of a female dog in heat. hope that helps!

I have a Boston male too, and we got him fixed when he was a pup, and NOTHING CHANGED!!! The little horndog still humps everything, and he is 8 years old!!! What’s funny is that he has a female Boston companion, but never mounts her, he just prefers pillows!!! So to answer your question, I’d say get him fixed just to prevent the risk of having poor little boston’s homeless. However, if you need the money in the future and he is a pure bred then don’t. Up to you though, obviously.
