The concerns you are describing can be the result of undiagnosed oral problems OR a change in food preferences. To be sure, I would suggest that you have your pet thoroughly examined by a veterinarian. Sometime diseases of the oral cavity are subtle and the pain they cause not readily obvious. While dental problems are always a concern in older pets, other things can happen to the oral cavity and jaw. Oral tumors and nerve problems that can affect chewing and swallowing, are two that come to mind. Issues with individual teeth can actually happen below the gum line and are not easily visualized.
