Have your say by leaving a comment below. Supporters have formed the Concession Card Coalition, including student union representatives from Monash, Melbourne and Swinburne universities. “All we’re fighting for is full equality,” said University of Melbourne’s graduate student union president Paul Coats. He said public transport costs totalling nearly $200 a month were crippling many students. “In a context where universities are raising fees and the price of rental accommodation and books has increased, all of these factors amount to students being wrung like a dishcloth,” Mr Coats said. A government spokesman said there were no plans to give international students access to concession fares. Foreign students could save money by buying tickets in bulk, he said. The Concession Card Coalition is calling on students to join a protest at the State Library on September 2.
