Prayer is banned from public schools because they are government funded institutions and “Freedom of religion” means just as much freedom to not be religious as to be whatever religion you choose. The government is not allowed to favor or endorse religion in any way. Catholic schools are not funded by the government for almost the sole purpose of allowing religious education and prayer to occur at the same time as the rest of the educational process. Eliminating prayer eliminates the point.

I agree with thedonut, people knowingly choose Catholic schools and are aware of the religious affiliation. Prayer is a part of the Catholic denomination of Christianity, and therefore, it is natural that in a Parochial school, it would be a part of the day.

<> No, of course it cannot. <> Here’s two simple and obvious reasons why prayer cannot and will not be banned from Catholic schools. 1) Catholic schools are PRIVATE institutions. Therefore, no PUBLIC regulatory body has the power to dictate policy, period. 2) Catholic schools are RELIGIOUS institutions. They cease to be that if prayer is banned from the institution. Given Reason #1, the only regulatory body with the authority to ban prayer is the religion itself – and they’re not going to do that as that would be conter-productive to the religious life.

Catholic schools exist because of centuries of censorship, brain-washing, superstition, oppression, exploitation, massacre, theft and coercion. They need all the prayer they can get. .

Many non-Catholics try to en-roll their children because they cannot afford to go private, and want the best for their children. Our school system is not broken, so doesn’t need fixing.
