Should Sexual Wisdom for Catholic Adolescents be taught to or given to students younger than 16?
This is up to the parents’ discretion. The Catholic Church teaches that parents should be the primary instructors of their children’s sexuality education and we have made every effort to follow that guideline. In general, we recommend against teaching the course to homeschooled female students before 16 years of age. It may be appropriate or advisable to teach male students or those who attend school outside the home at 15 years of age. In general, for students younger than 15 years of age, we recommend only teaching parts of the course depending on the circumstances, for example, if the student has been involved in serious sexual sin or has been exposed to pornography. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, the Pauline Principle always applies: do not do evil so that good may come about. If the parents believe that there is a risk of scandalizing the student by teaching it at a younger age, they should wait.
