Should smoking be banned altogether?

“Should smoking be banned altogether?” Under a Fascist Government..Yes. Under a Constitutional, Free Republic..No! “The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of action of any of their number, is self-protection. That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant. He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because, in the opinion of others, to do so would be wise, or even right… The only part of the conduct of anyone, for which he is amenable to society, is that which concerns others. In the part which merely concerns himself, his independence is, of right, absolute.

Yes! Being addicted to a substance is not freedom of choice. I hate that argument- that would mean more or less everything should be free to choose like drugs, crime etc. Ban smoking, just don’t ban nicotine then people can still have the drug they are addicted to but without the cancer, passive smoking, smell, environmental problems, healthcare costs etc.

Yes, right after we figure out a way to collect back child support, and provide health care, and find a way to get drunk drivers off the road and keep them off the road, and when we figure out how to stop repeat criminals, and when we figure out how to stop rapist, and serial killers, and child molesters, and people who bounce checks, and when we have figure out how to stop the wrong from becoming right, then we should figure out a way to stop smoking all together.

Yes its disgusting! It doesnt just affect the person whos smoking it but also the people around them! My dad smokes and recently i was diagnosed with a heart problem. They cant blame it on his smoking yet because they need to do more tests but its more than likely that thats what caused it. Also though i do understand how hard it would be for someone to give up after a life time of smoking and if im honest it would probably be better for an older person to carry on smoking than trying to give up because the stress and the strain from giving up can cause more harm than good.
