Should the council rewire my home to earth the circuits?

0

I have lived in my house (from new) for 46 years. At that time the earth was a copper rod driven into the ground and was securely bonded to the house water supply where it entered the house. Recently , I wanted to install an electric oven instead of gas which increased the power needed. I consulted a qualified electrician who told me that the regulations have changed a lot since the house was built and my earth system would not meet them. He said I am not currently breaking any laws, because my wiring pre dated the new regulation, BUT if I wanted to install a new feed to the new cooker I would have to have a PME earth fitted. This is supplied by e-on, and costs about £155. On top of that the electricians costs have to be paid – approximately an extra £250 because he would have to fit a contact-breaker instead of the fuse-box. So it is expensive, but may save your life! This is my experience and the case is not the same as yours. However, I would suggest you need an electrician to check
