Actually, no, it is not illegal to wear religious symbols in France. Most French would be arrested if that were the case. France is by no means an atheist country, the vast majority are Catholic. Certain articles of clothing which are a symbol of religion, such as burkas which cover the face, and turbans, have been banned from certain situations, but even THAT is not supportable in a modern society. Religion is a personal right. No person should be allowed to control what any OTHER person does to celebrate or proclaim their religious beliefs, provided that proclamation doesn’t affect others. No article of clothing or jewelry harms any other person.
