Should we enact a tougher Shoreland Zoning Ordinance?
This publication is presented for “Classroom Use Only.” Its intended use is to stimulate and aid in discussion and role playing within a classroom setting. The State of Maine created shoreland zoning laws in the 1970s. Every town in Maine had to enact shoreland zoning laws of their own or, at the very least, adopt the State s shoreland zoning ordinances. There has been some discussion in town to create some parts of the shoreland zoning ordinance to be stricter than the state s, which is allowable under current law. What kind of arguments might you suggest either in favor of stricter ordinances, or keeping the minimum standards that are currently in effect?
