Should we have a national DNA database to aid crime detection?

I am a deputy in the state of Florida and we do have a DNA database. the Florida Dept of Law Enforcement is compiling the results. The way its being collected is that if a person has EVER been convicted of any felony at ANY TIME then the next time they are arrested and come to jail they can not leave the jail for any reason until the submit to a dna sample which is sent to FDLE. They can no bond out, they can not be transferred to another county they will not walk out of the doors until the sample is taken per Florida Statue. IF all the state would do this then all we would have to do is network it with the other states. Just like people that are wanted are listed nationally in the National Crime Information Center.
