Should we have Muslim prayer rooms for those of the Muslim faith to pray in Catholic schools?

First of all…I thought the whole point of having Catholic schools was that it was meant for those of the Catholic background or maybe a lot has changed since I was a little girl as back then it was meant for those of the Catholic background. Nowadays, there are prayer facilities in most public areas such as Unis, colleges, hospitals, there’s even a prayer room at Heathrow Airport. To be honest I’m not sure sure whether this is a good idea or not…I’m all for children going to school where they are not segregated due to their religious beliefs, if it was good enough for me as a girl way back in the 1970’s and also believe its good enough now for today’s young generation of children. Learning side by side no matter what your beliefs are, will encourage a better understanding in children growing up together. We already have enough hatred in this world because there is not enough of religious tolerance amongst some people..I think single faith schools would not help such situations…..b

I went to Catholic school because at home, there were no Muslims schools and public school was out of the question.Private school education tends to be better. I would have been happy just being exempted from the Catholic rituals and dogma but I accepted them because I knew that I had no choice.Education comes first. At about 12,going into seventh grade I was told I couldnt wear my khimar. This sparked a bit of a mini national controversy at home in the Bahamas. There was no rule at that time saying I couldnt, after my expulsion the rule was put.No other religious symbols, nothing covering the hair are now allowed in Catholic schools in the Bahamas.Considering my mother, also a muslim works at the same school where i was expelled from, its a tad ironic,She wears khimar as well, This gesture by the Bishops is very generous and it is appreciated.I hope that a small room, and an extra faucet dont cause division and fighting and spark the intolerance it was meant to belay.

There should be no prayer rooms or catholic faith schools. All publicly funded schools should be entirely secular.
