Should workers take a pay cut to save £3m for Neath Port Talbot Council?

0

By paul lewis COUNCIL workers in Neath Port Talbot are being asked to take a pay cut to help the authority save £3 million and protect frontline services next year. A deal has been thrashed out between council bosses and non-teaching union officials for salaries to be reduced for the year starting April 1 — on top of the three-year pay freeze that has already been proposed. Assuming a staff ballot supports it, the reduction would be applied at different rates with the lowest paid staff not having any cut. But thousands will see their pay reduced by less than two per cent and chief executive Steve Phillips will see his salary trimmed by three per cent.
