The most common side effect of Norplant use is irregular menstrual bleeding. Irregularities vary from woman to woman and may include: prolonged menstrual bleeding during the first months of use (rarely heavy bleeding); untimely bleeding or spotting between periods; no bleeding at all for several months and, in some cases, for a year or longer; or a combination of these patterns.
