” If you know someone’s screenname and you want to spy on them, you add them to your “buddy list.” You can separate your buddy lists into groups and give them any names you choose. For instance, one of my friends separated hers into “robots” and “monkeys.” I don’t even know who is in which group… If your friend Jenny signs on and you want to talk to her, you double-click on her screenname to open up a chat window. You type what you want to say and press “enter” to send. Or you can click on “send” which is in the bottom right-hand side of the window. It’s easier and much cheaper than calling people. I would never talk to some of my friends who go to other colleges if it weren’t for AIM. It’s not perfect for keeping touch, but at least gives you a foundation on which to base later, real conversations.
