Some claim that 10 years from now solar will be cheaper. Does CPS Energy account for the cost of solar energy coming down in the long term?
CPS Energy agrees the cost of solar power is likely to be more affordable in the future, but reliability problems and the lack of viable energy storage are expected to take a long time to resolve for wind and solar. Planning for our community’s energy needs must be done years in advance, so that the power is available when it’s needed. We cannot wait until 2018 to begin planning for 2020. We continue to update our projections based on our real-life experience of continued renewable development.
