Some of my students are having trouble using the Collaboration tools in Blackboard [Virtual Classroom and Chat] Do they need any special software?
Yes, Java 2 Run Time Environment Plug-in is required for Blackboard’s Collaboration features to function properly. The new JRE 1.5.0 Java Plug-in should automatically install when a user attempts to join either of the Collaboration features. A new browser window will open and a Security Warning dialog box will appear. You will be prompted to install and run “Java 2 Runtime Environment.” Click on Yes to install the Java Plug-In. If it does not automatically install, follow the procedure below to download the installer program and install the plug-in manually. Manual installation: The installer program may be downloaded manually from the page that appears when a user joins a Collaboration session, or may be found at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/ .
