The MIDI EVI defaults to sending MIDI Volume (CC#7) and a fixed velocity of 127. Each time you turn on the MIDI EVI, you will want to set it to send breath controller data (CC#2) and variable (tongued) velocity. To do this: Put your left hand thumb between the 2nd and 3rd octave rollers (do not touch the left hand ring), AND finger the 1st TRILL key AND the 3rd VALVE key, AND touch the furthest right hand pinky sensor. This sets the MIDI EVI to transmit breath controller data (MIDI CC#2) and tongued velocity from its breath sensor. Additionally, MIDI EVIs with later version OS chips installed have the ability to turn off Portamento Switch (CC#65) while leaving on Portamento Time (CC#5). Portamento Switch (CC#65) transmission is best turned off for smooth slurs with the Yamaha VL70-m as explained elsewhere in this Wind Controller FAQ.
