TD Gas Cap Seal, easy repair?
I keep getting gas stains down my tank. I guess this means the fuel is sloshing it’s way past the gas cap. The old original gasket looks likes it has seen it’s better days. It has receded to the point that the cap spring no longer compresses. I ordered a new one from Moss. I was just wondering, if there is anything tricky about replacing this part. Can the old one just be dug out with a screwdriver? Any sealant needed on the new one? I found that I had to use two gaskets. One wasn’t thick enough as they compress overtime. Replacing it is a fiddly job. You need a scratch awl or other sharp tool to scape out all of the old seal. Put a rag or cork into the opening so the seal bits don’t fall into the fuel tank. An attitional item that wil help keep gas from slopping out of the tank is a piece of 1 1/2″ chrome sink drain pipe. Get the type that is used for extensions and has a small flange on one end. Cut it to 3 – 4 inches in length and drill a 3/16″ hole clear through about 1/2 to 3/4 in
