The cost always shows as 0.0 in the Plan view even after assigning the resources. How can I change this value?

The resources need to be assigned a cost first. To do so, go to the Resource view. Double-click on the task to get the Resource Details dialog. The cost pertaining to the resource can be filled in here. Then the cost will be reflected in the Plan view if these resources are assigned to the tasks.
