The pump packings on my ASM airless sprayer are wearing out prematurely. What could be causing the accelerated packing wear?
• Operating the sprayer with a clogged inlet strainer or without the inlet strainer. • Priming the unit without using the prime valve. • The throat packings have not been inspected/adjusted on a regular basis. • Packing Seal liquid is not being used. Keep packing nut ¾ full of Packing Seal liquid. • Water or paint is being left in the sprayer instead of cleaning and leaving mineral spirits or pump storage fluid in the pump lower. • The pump cylinder is worn and should be replaced. • A kinked or clogged siphon tube.
