The U.S health-care system is far from being a genuine free market, but is a mixture of government and private activity. 45% of the money is government directed, and the government runs Medicare and Medicaid. The main problem with the U.S system is that many people’s health insurance is provided through their employers, because the government allows businesses tax exemptions for this. This indirect method of health insurance creates the excessive bureaucratisation and inefficiency seen. Critics leap on this failure of socialism as a justification for even more socialism!
