This is usually caused by buggy graphics drivers, try a different version, either older or newer. If you are using Windows Vista then make sure that you're using recent drivers. It doesn't matter if they are beta versions. The latest WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) drivers are simply too old and too buggy.
