There are a lot of videos online of baby boys being circumcised that are passed around by anti-circumcision people as being evidence for its ghastliness. Are there any videos of baby boys sleeping through it, and the like?
There are videos of babies ‘sleeping’ during the process. This isn’t because they aren’t feeling pain; it is because the pain is so severe they literally shut down to try and cope. The screaming starts again later when the diapers and bandages are stuck and need to be peeled off, or when adhesions form and the pediatrician rips them loose over and over. Or, as a friend of mine has described, every single time he has ever had an erection throughout his life. His circumcision healed badly, he had two further corrective surgeries as a child. Imagine being a 25 year old man completely unable to enjoy sex, because the ridge of scar tissue pulls so badly it feels like his flesh is tearing. It is mutilation, without reason. There is no medical benefit. There is no way of making it ‘okay’. Our medicine has progressed and accepted that circumcision was not a ‘cure’ for any of the things they once believed it to be.
