There are other training methods, there are gadget based training i.e. whistles, clickers, electric collars, collars that spray various substances at the dog, collars that emit noise, collars with spikes that stick into the dogs neck. There are also different ways of training the dog, you have the traditional ‘make him do it’ approach, endless repetition until the dog is bored senseless, then there is the good old walking round in a circle in a church hall with 15 other dogs and a dog trainer. This teaches the dog to walk in a circle with other dogs, usually on leaving the hall most dogs revert to their previous behaviour. These systems work to a greater or lesser degree but one thing is constant, they are all unnatural.
