Chlorine is a greenish yellow gas which, when disolved in water leaves no noticeable colour change. The whitness is due to the reflection of light off tiny bubbles of air which (upon standing) will disappear within 30 seconds. This is not harmful. These bubbles are the result of compression air in the distribution system by water.
