To Shave or not to Shave?

This question is one I hear alot. Some people believe you should never shave a thick coated dog such as a Chow or Husky. But unfortunately for these heavy coated breeds they were not designed to live in 80+ degree heat. Giviing these pets a shorter hair cut without leaving their skin bare can give them some relief. Keeping a minimum amount of hair protects the skin from sunburn and keeps the skin cooler. Just like us a thin t-shirt will keep us cooler than a parka and still protect us from the sun.
