Tongue piercings.. do they hurt/cost/where/age?

0

I got my tongue pierced a few years ago when I was 15 at a piercing shop in worthing. It cost me £35, and I think the age was 18 but they never bothered asking because I was with an adult anyway. I would definitley go for it, I loved having it. Great fun to play with when your bored! It does hurt a little bit but it is more of a strange sensation rather than pain. Sort of like when you get an injection in your gum at the dentist. The worst part is when it swells. They will give you a large bar at first because your tounge will swell more than twice the size. It is very difficult to eat for the first few days because you cannot move it around your mouth, it is also difficult to talk. I just stuck to soup and first and then pot noodles when I could manage them. To make sure it doesn’t get infected, wash you mouth with alcohol free mouthwash. After the swelling goes down it is still difficult to eat because your mouth automatically thinks that the tounge bar is food on your tounge and you

I think they cost around £30 max, thinking back to when my sister had hers. I think you have to be 16. I’d shop around in your area and ask anyone you know with one, where they had theirs. Look at their hygiene when you go in. As for hurting, I believe they are very painful. I’ve had several piercings but never been brave enough for that one. The healing time is long and your tongue will swell up like crazy. My sister was taking painkillers for ages after hers. The do it with a large needle and then put a very long bar through to allow for the swelling. I think you then go back once or perhaps twice over a week or two and they’ll put smaller bars in for you until you get to the regular sized one. They’re difficult to keep clean due to where they are and the amount of bacteria in your mouth so they often become infected. This isn’t necessarily the fault of the people who did the piercing but unavoidable. Personally I couldn’t handle it but each to their own.

I paid £30 but that was about 7yrs ago – i was 15 at the time. Personally I didn’t find it painful – more like a nip. A few of my friends said the same. It did swell slightly after but just drink cold drinks and ice – be really careful about cleaning it and you should have no problems. You will prob get a big bar in at first but then they should change it about a week later to a smaller one (when the swelling goes down). Piercings in the mouth heal faster – the People at the shop will explain everything to you.
