Was Dun Ladys Jess based on a particular horse?
Nope. Lady/Jess arrived in my mind fully formed, as most of my main characters do. While we’re at it, Sully (Nose for Trouble) isn’t based on any particular Beagle, but Druid (A Feral Darkness) is a conglomeration of my dogs Jag and Jean-Luc Picardigan, both of whom came to my household as “rehab” dogs. Many of the supporting players or walk-on critter characters in my books are based on animal friends of mine.
