Was former Gov. Evan Mecham the first person who attempted to get the CP started in Arizona?
I was told in 2002 that he was then the state director. RG: Mr. Mecham was the first person to attempt to start the party here. I’m not sure of all the history on that. TAC: The CP has a platform that ranks second to none in the conservative movement. Do you view the platform as a selling point for your party? RG: Absolutely, it is what the party is all about. One of our motto’s is “principle above politics.” We hold to conservative, constitutional principles as our reason for being. Our main goal is not simply win the election or to hold power, but to truly return the nation’s course to that laid out by our country’s founders. I guarantee you will never have a Constitution Party nominee who says that they have never read our platform or don’t feel bound to it.
