Was Keplers heliocentric model widely accepted at the time?
It was not widely accepted right away- the idea that orbits could be ellipses rather than perfect circles was rather shocking and took people some time to get used to. But Kepler’s model marked the time when more and more people started to get convinced, because his model worked so very well in terms of matching to astronomical data. It fared better than the Copernican circular orbit model, which, although simple conceptually, just didn’t work quantitatively very well.
