I really like both of them. But, my favorite is the original. First, the 2005 version is that it feels very “stagey”. It looks like they intentionally tried to make the movie feel just like the stage production, but it didn’t come off well. It just made the movie feel a little one dimensional set wise. Plus, some of the jokes in the 2005 version really don’t work. You can just tell it was a joke that must have been hilarious in the theater but it tanked on screen. Like the director’s assistant doing that weird thing with his mouth when they come in and earlier drawing out “yesssssssssss”. They just seemed really stupid. Anyway, my favorite is the original, but the songs are so funny in the new version that I still love to watch it. And Nathan Lane is always a riot.
