Was the baath party in Iraq a secular organization?
The Iraqi government under Hussein’s Ba’ath Party was pretty secular from all accounts I’ve come across. The problem was that he was still a regional bully, was not completely forth-coming on the WMD issue (when the police tell you to show your hands, you should do so immediately), he violated the “no-fly” zone repeatedly, and he was anti-Israel at least during the first Gulf War (with Scud missiles). He simply had to go – WMD or not, secular or not!
