Was the California Supreme Court right to allow gay marriage?

The Court did not “allow” gay marriage. What they did — correctly, in my view — is strike down a voter initiative that purported to limit the right to marry to heterosexual couples. California’s Constitution (unlike many other states) expressly forbids discrimination based upon sexual orientation, and the law in question clearly violated that provision of the California Constitution.
