Was the Komodo Dragon thought to be the legendary Chinese dragon?

That’s a wild speculation. Komodo dragons were discovered only around 1910 and Chinese have made no claims about Komodo Dragon being the source of the legendary Chinese Dragons. They have not much commonality either. Chinese Dragons are a legend at best. These mythical creatures had a camel head, a snake neck, fish scales, eagle claws, tiger paws, ox ears, deer horns, and whiskers. Anyone can claim that they could have been inspired by any of the lizard like creatures.
