Was the US Civil War a precursor to WW1 Slaughter?

Hello, In a way, yes. Historically, wars have always been fought w/the last war’s tactics. The US Civil War was fought using napoleanic formations, going against the Minie’ ball. The Mini ball provided much greater range & accuracy than lead ball ammo. Ditto the increased efficacy of cannister shot by that time. The Maxim machine gun was invented in the wake of the civil war, to make war unthinkable. Firing lines of belt-fed, water cooled machine guns soon turned the trench lines into horror scenes as well. You owe me for this much info. I expect some good food via FedEx (or maybe name your dog after me or something…).
