We have a Chinese dogwood tree that is now in bloom…but
To take care of this situation properly could be a little pricey – and there is no guarentee your tree will recover, but there are some things you could do to help your tree put up a better fight against the spread of pathogenic microbial infection. My first thoughts are that your tree is obviously stressed, probably as a result of water &/or nutrient unavailability. If it is a fungal infection you will notice discolouration of the foliage (chlorosis), some death of foliage (necrosis) & early – unseasonal – leaf fall. In the early stages of an infection, only part of the crown maybe affected, whereas with water/nutrient deficiency the whole crown in equally affected. Things you can do: Ensure your tree is watered – use a timed drip feed sprinkler system if there is likely to be little rainfall. Provide drainage if the ground is waterlogged for prolonged periods.
