Weekly Poll: Should Partial-Birth Abortions Be Banned? Thursday August 12, 2010 Despite the fact that abortion is legal, the Christian Right’s war on abortion is having the effect of reducing women’s choices because fewer and fewer doctors learn how to or are willing to perform the procedure. This is especially true for dilations and extractions (intact D&Es), labeled “partial-birth abortions” by opponents, even though they are needed for women whose fetuses have died. It has become an important issue for the Christian Right in America to ban “partial-birth” abortions. They think that this will be easier than banning all abortions, but it’s also regarded as a step towards that ultimate goal.
