I live in upstate NY. My ancestors date back to the late 1600’s and my area is rich in Native American and early American history. Because of this I have done a fair amount of research and reading on this subject. Not because I had to but because i enjoy it. Prior to the arrival of Europeans to this country there were many many bloody battles between various tribes. Mostly over land, although enslaving those peoples of other tribes was also a reason. The wars between the Mayans and the Incas were particularly bloody. Cannibalism and human sacrifice were also not uncommon during this period of time. Most tribes were hunters and gatherers and lived on the verge of starvation. Moving frequently was not uncommon since food and climate conditions played a major role in survival. Not one tribe had invented the wheel prior to the arrival of the Europeans. To answer your questions: Primitive yes. Peaceful No. Environmentalists I guess so.
