No. Early American Indians were considered “savage” by the white man because their culture was dramatically different then the new white settlers. Difference does not equal bad. The Native Americans were forced to assimilate (conform) to the new white settlers ways. The children were forced from the tribes into boarding schools with all white children to force their culture out of them. Adult Native Americans were pushed further and further west so the white settlers could take their land. If they opposed, they would be killed. The Native Americans were disarmed leaving them helpless against the white settlers. The white settlers slaughtered hundreds of thousands native Americans. It is a very sad part of American history. Type in “The Trail of Tears” or “Indian Removal Act” or “Wounded Knee” into google and read about some of it. Its very unsettling.
