What advice could I give a pregnant woman about breastfeeding?

Tell her that in the first few weeks she’ll feel like all she does is nurse her baby. It might make her a bit resentful of her husband because he can’t share in this feeding responsibility. She won’t realize it at the time but actually being responsible for this gives her a chance to sit down and rest. Also, nursing creates such an amazing bond between mother and child, and she’ll find that these first few weeks will really establish this. Tell her that soon she won’t feel like she is nursing enough because her child will become more efficient and she’ll want those early days back. Also tell her to build up a freezer supply…I’m behind in this and wish I had more milk! Tell her how amazing it is to look at your child and know they’ve grown so big because of your body. Lastly, tell her to commit to breastfeeding despite its challenges. I’ve had many friends that had every reason to quit (sore nipples, low milk supply, exhaustion) but who kept on going. Any problem can be worked out!
